Nick Wood made his first backpack out of necessity. As a struggling student he needed a backpack large enough for A3 design folders, that didn't cost a fortune and was stylish and individual. Working part time at a shade cloth manufacturer he decided to make his first backpack from shade cloth off-cuts. He has since refined that design to the product we see now, but W&W Co. still make use of the shade cloth off-cuts.
Utilizing up-cycled shade cloth proved to be a real winner as it not only diverted fabric from landfill, but it proved to be a great fabric for making backpacks. Shade cloth is UV rated and won’t deteriorate in the sun, it won’t fall apart, it won’t show obvious signs of ageing, and, it can be thrown in the washing machine if it gets dirty. The thread is also thicker and stronger than most of our competitors. W&W Co. backpacks will last the test of time.
The unique colour combinations of each backpack are individually designed and made depending on the supply of off-cuts and end of rolls. It is therefore unlikely that you will see the same backpack on the street. So, if you like a certain backpack be quick to buy it.
W&W Co. are designed and handcrafted in Adelaide, South Australia, and are proudly sweatshop free. We add new backpacks regularly, so be sure to visit again soon!
